Living on the border of New York and Pennsylvania, the doctor and her siblings grew up in a home with dogs and cats ... and a horse named Gentle Ben.  From her earliest years animals were an important part of her life.  A childhood spend caring for, and interacting with, various pets, along with a love of the biological sciences, led to the realization that veterinary medicine was the only possible career choice.

Her undergraduate years were spent at the University of Utah and Colorado State University. Accepted into the program at the Colorado State College of Veterinary Medicine, she graduated with her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1982.  Dr. Beeman headed back home to New York State and worked for 2 years as an associate in a practice near Buffalo.  A vet school classmate was the veterinarian posted to the West Point Military Academy.  While visiting him at West Point, he brought up the possibility of a housecall practice to serve the needs of the community around the Academy.  At first, Dr. Beeman thought the idea was "a bit crazy."  However, realizing the beauty of the Hudson Highlands and the variety of activities in the region, the idea of a housecall practice became more and more attractive.

Officially on August 1, 1984 Beeman Mobile Veterinary Service was born.  Evidently Dr. Beeman was not the only one who thought veterinary housecalls was a good idea.  She had her first appointment that same day.  As the years progressed, Dr. Beeman discovered that she truly enjoyed doing housecalls. Known for her strong belief that an important part of her role as the family veterinarian is providing owners with the knowledge needed to make informed decisions, Dr. Beeman found housecalls allowed her the time to spend with clients.

A few years after starting practice Dr. Beeman became a member of the Town of Highlands Humane Society.  In 1999 the remaining members of the initial society reformed into the current 4Paws Humane Society.  Dr. Beeman has served as the Vice-President for many years and is a staple of every fundraiser and event.

Over the last 26 years Dr. Beeman has provided medical care to thousand of cats and dogs, from annual wellness exams to dealing with major medical issues.  And when the time came, the doctor gently helped many of those same pets pass on.  Little did the doctor know that a visit to a friend would led over a quarter of a century of service to a community she has come to call home.
